WinSCP (Windows Secure CoPy) is an open source SFTP and FTP client for Microsoft Windows. Its main function is secure file transfer between local and remote computer. Beyond this, WinSCP offers basic file manager functions and file synchronization. To secure the transfer, use Secure Shell (SSH) and supports the SCP protocol in addition to SFTP.
Development of WinSCP started around May 2000 and continues. Initially he was held by the University of Economics in Prague, where the author worked at the time. Since 16 July 2003 licensed under the GPL and hosted on SourceForge.net.
WinSCP is based on the implementation of the Putty SSH protocol and the protocol from FTP filezilla. WinSCP is also available as a plugin to two file managers, FAR Altap and Salamander.
