Ponsel Berbahan Kayu Dikembangkan Jepang

TOKYO - Operator telekomunikasi Jepang NTT DoCoMo bersama perusahaan elektronik lainnya seperti Sharp dan Olympus sedang mengembangkan ponsel berbahan kayu.

Upaya pembuatan ponsel berbahan kayu ini juga didukung oleh "more trees", sebuah proyek reforestasi yang didirikan musisi Jepang, Ryuichi Sakamoto.

Kayu-kayu yang digunakan untuk pembuatan ponsel adalah sisa yang tak terpakai dari hasil penebangan hutan. DoCoMo juga telah menunjukkan prototipe ponsel kayu yang diberi nama Touch Wood. Ponsel tersebut juga diklaim tahan air, rayap, dan jamur karena kayu telah melalui proses kompresi yang dilakukan oleh Olympus.

Setiap ponsel Touch Wood memiliki pola dan warna yang sangat alami mengikuti alur kayu yang digunakan sehingga tiap ponsel akan berbeda-beda dari segi warna dan pola. Demikian dilansir Cellular-news, Jumat (25/9/2009).
